The New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros 4-1 on Saturday night. The offense has looked like a minor league team for the majority of the second half. With the loss, the Mets fall a game under .500, and continue to struggle against teams with bad records.

The Big Pelf version of Mike Pelfrey appears to have returned, as he threw 8 shutout innings in the victory against the same Houston Astros that just won four straight against the Sillies down Philthydelphia earlier this week.  While it was a nice win, the Mets still sit far down in the standings.

After enjoying an off day for the first time in two weeks, the Yankees will look to come out re-energized and focused as they kick off a three-game set in Chicago against the White Sox. Chicago (69-58) is only 3.5 games behind the first place Minnesota Twins. The Yanks took two of three earlier this year in the Bronx. Expect the ball to be flying out of US Cellular Field with two of the AL’s best power hitting teams.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Florida Marlins 11-4 on Thursday night. Although the Mets jumped out to an early lead, it was all Marlins for the second half of the game. The loss puts them under .500, as they see themselves fall further in the NL East and Wild Card standings.

The New York Yankees couldn’t figure out Brett Cecil and ran out of innings against the Toronto bullpen and lost the game tonight by a score of 6-3. Phil Hughes lacked command and took his sixth loss of the year. With the loss, the Yankees drop to 78-49 on the season and are still tied for first in the AL East with a Tampa Bay loss.

Only in Boston will you find a player with a glove on his hand that isn't a pitcher getting ejected for arguing balls and strikes. - AP

The Mets did what they do best, fall behind, make it somewhat interesting, but ultimately come up short, because they don’t have one leader or clutch player on their team. They fall to 63-63 on the season.

The New York Yankees brought their bats tonight in support of Dustin Moseley by going yard five times in the win over the Toronto Blue Jays 11-5. Dustin Moseley got the win to improve to 4-2 on the year and keep his starting job (for now). With the win and the corresponding Tampa Bay Rays win, the two teams move to 78-48 for the season.

The New York Mets defeated the Florida Marlins 6-5 in walk-off fashion Tuesday night. Luis Castillo poked an opposite field single into right field to drive in Ike Davis as the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the victory, the Mets are one game over .500 for the season, and pull ahead of the Marlins in the standings.
