Initial Reaction:

Mike Pelfrey faced off against Jeff Karstens in the first game of a three-game set. The Mets lineup got to Karstens early and Mike Pelfrey pitched the team past the Pittsburgh Pirates in a big bounce back win.

The offense woke up and smelled the coffee. They were clicking on all cylinders. Let’s hope they can carry the momentum and sweep a really bad Pirates team this weekend.

Interesting to see Bobby Parnell pitch a perfect ninth inning. Future closer potential…?

Positives From The Game:

Big Pelf: While the Mets offense did give him a lot of run support, Mike Pelfrey still pitched very impressive. He went eight strong innings, allowing only two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks, while striking out five. Win number 12 for Big Pelf!

Offense Clicks: The Mets bats came out swinging tonight. Four hitters (Angel Pagan, Ike Davis, Josh Thole, and Chris Carter) contributed two-hit performances and two hitters (David Wright and Jose Reyes) has three-hit games. They put up seven runs in the first four innings, sealing the victory early. Altogether, the Mets had fifteen hits and two stolen bases. They did a great job of manufacturing runs.

Negatives From The Game:

No negatives tonight. The Mets offense finally came around and the pitching was good.
