The New York Yankees simply couldn’t manage any offense and A.J. Burnett looked awful tonight as the Seattle Mariners came into the Bronx and won by a score of 6-0. With the loss, A.J. moves to 9-11 on the season as his ERA hovers near five. With the loss, the Yankees move to 75-47 on the year and now have a half-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Initial Reaction:

The Yankees could not get anything going tonight against “King” Felix Hernandez. They only managed more than one base runner in the fifth inning, when they loaded the bases but failed to push a run across.

Positives From The Game:

Not much: Actually, nothing at all. Chad Gaudin’s two scoreless innings at the end were nice, but he’ll be DFA’ed sooner than later.

Negatives From The Game:

Bad A.J. Returns: The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story of A.J. Burnett’s 2010 season took another turn for the worse tonight. Allan simply could not keep the Mariners off base, whether it was by a hit or a walk. He did manage to go seven innings, but he gave up 12 hits to the worst offense in the American League.

And the Offense: I could complain about any of the offensive woes tonight, but I don’t have enough space.

A-Rod Walks Off: Not in a good way. He grounded out in the second and labored to get down the line. He was eventually pinch-hit for by Austin Kearns. We’ll monitor A-Rod’s status closely.

Interesting Facts:

The Yankees struck out 14 times tonight.

Felix Hernandez has faced the Yankees in 25 innings this season and only allowed one earned run.
