The Mets dropped the rubber match of the series tonight on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. They fall a game below .500 once again, and are now 10-19 since the All Star Break. The offense still sucks, while starting pitching continues to keep the Mets in games.

Reaction: The Mets can’t get it done at the plate. They’re the most unclutch team in all of sports. No, not just baseball, every major sport that is played in this great country. They don’t perform when the lights are brightest, and lately, they don’t perform at all. They’re 0-46 when trailing after 8 innings. Pathetic.

The Good:

Jose: Jose Reyes is clearly the best player on this team. He was 2-4 with a home run. The only run scored and RBI of the game. The Mets would be silly to trade him, he makes the team go.

Pelf: He wasn’t the Big Pelf tonight, because he took the loss, but he was solid, allowing only 3 runs through 7 innings without any walks. He’s now 11-7 on the season.

The Bad:

David Wright: He made another error, and he just is struggling right now. Fitting that it’s the most important time of the year and Wright goes cold.

The Ugly:

Rain: The rain made the field an ugly mess and I was surprised to never see a rain delay.

Los Mets: The Mets are an ugly team to watch. One hit after Jose Reyes’ home run in the 3rd hitting? And that being a bunt single by Castillo? Awful.

Interesting Facts:

The Mets rank last in the NL in BA, Runs per game, Slugging, OBP, and OPS since the All Star Break. Unbelievable.

What’s Next?

The Mets head on a 7 game road trip against the 2 worst teams in the National League. I guess we’ll see if the Mets are closer to the bottom of the league’s pecking order, rather than the upper echelon.
