Dustin Moseley made the most of his opportunity as a starter in his first start of the season, throwing six strong innings. Behind a seven-run seventh inning the Yankees beat the Indians, 11-4.

This was probably a strike; AP

Initial Reaction:

With Andy Pettitte on the DL, the Yankees needed a pitcher to step up. And Dustin Moseley did in a big way. He allowed just one run on four hits through six innings, needing just 83 pitches on the night. He threw 17 first pitch strikes to the 22 batters he faced, and is a mortal lock to start again in five games.

The Yankees added seven runs in the seventh inning. Holding a slim two-run lead, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez recorded outs. Following that, the Yankees began a stretch that saw nine consecutive batters reach base safely with two outs. Robinson Cano hit home run number 20 to open the floodgates and begin the damage. Francisco Cervelli hit a run-scoring single before Derek Jeter worked a bases-loaded walk. Curtis Granderson and A-Rod added two-run singles as the Yankees pulled away in dominating fashion.

Positives From The Game:

Dustin Dominates: You couldn’t have asked for a more efficient or more effective start from Dustin Moseley. Six innings, four hits, one run, two walks, and four strikeouts – in just 83 pitches.

Lucky Number 7: The Yanks had a seven-run seventh inning rally that saw 12 plate appearances. When it was all over, the Yankees had scored seven runs on four hits and four walks.

Curtis Cashes In: There’s hot, and then there’s Granderson. Batting second in the order, Granderson went 2-for-4 with a double, drove in two, and drew a walk. In his last five games, Granderson’s average has risen 10 points.

The Yanks went 7-for-21 with runners in scoring position. To have 21 opportunities with runners in scoring position – and to bat .300 – is absurd.

Negatives From The Game:

Chan Ho Park: Two innings, three hits, two earned runs, three walks. Chan Ho has appeared in the Negatives section (an estimated) 300 times this season. The game was well over by the time Park came to the mound in the eighth – but put the game away and help lower that 5.60 ERA.

Interesting Facts:

Four of Moseley’s nine career wins have come against Cleveland.

Curtis Granderson has recorded at least two hits in four of his last five games.

The Yankees are 22-11 in the final game of a series this season, and have won 11 straight series finales.

A Yankees victory, and taking three out four from the Tribe in Ohio, means fun times in Cleveland.

Every Yankees starter reached base safely at least once, and Mark Teixeira (three walks) was the only starter to go hitless.

What’s Next?:
