The Mets bats continue to disappoint, while the pitching continues to give the team a chance to win. Today was R.A. Dickey’s turn as he was once again brilliant. The Mets were held to only 7 hits as they finished this miserable roadtrip 2-9. Jerry Manuel should be squarely on the hot seat.

Initial Reaction:

The Mets wasted another great outing by R.A. Dickey, as he went 5.2 innings, giving up only only two hits, and zero runs. The Dodgers were baffled by the knuckle ball all day, until Manuel removed Dickey with 2 outs in the 6th for precautionary reasons. It didn’t appear too serious, as he retired two batters following his slip on the mound. The Mets are now 50-49, only game above .500, one game ahead of the Florida Marlins, and 7.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves.

The Positives:

R.A.: Dickey’s been great all season, and he lowered his ERA to 2.55 today on the year. Hopefully the injury is nothing serious, because the Mets need all the pitching they can get while their bats continue to lie dormant.

The Negatives:

The Bats: They can’t catch a break in any facet of the offensive game. They finished their roadtrip 2-9, including being shut out 4 times.

Jerry Manuel: Your pitcher was absolutely battling today, and he looked phenominal throughout the game. Dickey deserved to stay in the game today. He has placed himself squarely on the hot seat returning home to Citi Field.

Interesting facts:

The Mets had 4 different streaks of 10+ inning scoreless streaks during their roadtrip.
