In a scorching afternoon game, the Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Yankees by a score of 7-4. Sergio Mitre was visibly rusty in his first game back from the disabled list and picked up the loss. With the loss, the Yankees fall to 61-35 on the season.

Initial Reaction:

The Yankees were never really given a chance with Sergio Mitre’s poor outing. He went 4.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs on seven hits. Obviously, Alex Rodriguez did not hit his 600th career home run, but still got a base hit to avoid a similar slump between home runs 499 and 500.

Positives from the Game:

Text Messages: Mark Teixeira went 2-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. He single-handedly gave the Yankees a chance to win today.

Jorgie Juiced One: In the bottom of the fourth, Jorge Posada hit a solo shot to right in an attempt to keep the Yanks in the game.

Moseley: Dustin Moseley was very impressive in relief of Sergio Mitre. He went 4.1 innings and allowed no earned runs on one hit and one walk. Sooner than later, he will get serious consideration for a start.

Negatives from the Game:

Sergio: Sure, it was his first start since coming off the DL, but he has to turn in a better performance. Given his poor start, I think in due time the Yankees will pick up another starter. Dan Haren anyone?

Interesting Facts:

On the month, Mark is batting .400 with 7 home runs and 11 RBIs

Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th career home run off of Royals starter Kyle Davis. It would have been something to see 600 off the same pitcher, but obviously that did not happen.

Kyle Farnsworth and Wilson Betemit, both former Yanks, played for the Royals today. Farnsworth was credited with his 8th hold of the year out of the bullpen and Betemit picked up a hit, a walk, and a run.
