Match-Up: White Sox at A’s

The races in both the AL and NL Centrals have been exciting all season. However, many people are not talking about the surging Oakland A’s. Oakland (49-47) has gone 5-1 since the All-Star Break, including an impressive series win over the Boston Red Sox. The A’s are still six games behind the first-place Texas Rangers, but are contending for the first time in years.

The A’s will send out All-Star, Trevor Cahill to the mound on Friday night. Cahill (9-3, 3.19 ERA) has been excellent at home this year, posting a 5-1 record with a 2.14 ERA. Cahill has made three career starts against the White Sox, but does not have a decision.

The White Sox will counter with struggling ace, Mark Buehrle. Buehrle (8-8, 4.18 ERA) has been spotty all season. He has been especially bad on the road (3-6, 4.38 ERA). In twenty career starts against the A’s, Buehrle is 3-12 with a 3.93 ERA.

I’m going with the home team in this contest. Cahill has been excellent this year and should utilize Chicago’s power.

The Pick: Oakland A’s

July Record: 11-10
