Match-Up: New York Mets (Pelfrey) at Arizona Diamondbacks (Kennedy)

The Mets will continue their eleven game road trip tonight in Arizona. Mike Pelfrey (10-4, 3.58 ERA) will get the ball after he was scratched on Saturday with a stiff neck. Pelfrey hasn’t won a game since June 25th and has given up eleven runs over his last two starts. Pelfrey is 2-1 with a 4.17 ERA on the road this year. He is 0-4 in his career against Arizona.

The D’Backs will send out ex-Yankee farmhand, Ian Kennedy. Kennedy (4-7, 4.12 ERA) has lost four of his last five starts. During that time frame, Kennedy has given up 22 runs in 28 innings. Kennedy has never faced the Mets before, but has a 2-2 record with a 3.46 ERA at home.

In a match-up of two struggling starters, I’m picking Pelfrey to bounce back and get his first win in nearly a month. The Mets (19-27, road) are nearly as bad as the Diamondbacks are at home (21-27). Let’s go with the Metropolitans in this game.

The Pick: New York Mets

July Record: 8-9
