Match-Up: New York Mets (Santana) at San Francisco Giants (Sanchez)

AP

The Mets will look to salvage the final game of this four-game set. So far, the Giants pitching has been a little better than the Mets. However, things will change this afternoon. The Mets will send out ace, Johan Santana to the hill. Johan Santana (7-5, 2.98 ERA) won his final two starts before the All-Star break. Santana has thrown at least six innings while giving up a total of 13 earned runs over those starts. Santana is 2-0 with a 3.89 ERA in five career starts.

The Giants will send out crafty righty, Jonathan Sanchez. Sanchez (7-6, 3.47 ERA) has been the talk of many trade rumors. The Giants and Brewers have been discussing a trade for Corey Hart that would include Sanchez. Sanchez is 5-3 at home this year and has a 2-1 lifetime record against the guys from Citi Field.

I’m going with the Mets. They need this win and Santana has delivered in these big spots.

The Pick: New York Mets

July Record: 9-8
