The New York Mets fell to the Atlanta Braves Friday night in a 4-2 loss, dropping to four games behind first place in the NL East division. The Mets, who have played well at home all season long, just lost three of their last four games on their own turf.

Initial Reaction:

R.A. Dickey took the mound against young phenom Tommy Hanson. Both pitchers were dominant early on, but Dickey gave up back-to-back solo shots to Melky Cabrera and Omar Infante in the top of the seventh inning before getting pulled. The Braves’ bullpen secured an important win against their division rival.

Mets offense looked dreadful today, so with Big Pelf and Johan pitching over the weekend, they need to perform better at the plate.

Positives From The Game:

R.A. Dickey: He did everything in his power to build momentum for the Mets against the Braves in this series. He began the game well, allowing his team to get a win up until the 7th inning. He slapped two singles in as many at-bats, and scored the only runs for the Mets offense. The first inning Jose Reyes error hurt him early on, but didn’t let that affect him.

The Relief Squad: Jerry Manuel turned to the bullpen in the 7th inning, and four Mets relievers combined for 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing for the Mets offense to rally late.

Negatives From The Game:

The Lineup: It just didn’t match up against Hanson and the Braves’ bullpen. I mean, R.A. Dickey had two of the Mets eight hits, and so did Angel Pagan (not as surprising). Strikeouts have been a problem all season long for New York, and it continued tonight, as they got fanned nine times.

Interesting Facts:

25: After today, the number of multi-hit games for Angel Pagan on the season.

5: The entire Mets starting infield tonight–five players–was homegrown: David Wright, Jose Reyes, Ruben Tejada, Ike Davis, and Josh Thole.

6:  Jose Reyes committed his sixth error of the season in the first inning tonight.
