Johan Santana was fantastic tonight in Queens, looking like the Ace the Mets were missing the last few weeks. He even got his first career home run off the right foul pole in the 3rd inning. A 9th inning Jerry¬† Manuel visit to the mound couldn’t even get Santana out of the game as he got all 27 outs tonight.

Initial Reaction:

Johan did it all tonight. He threw a complete game three hit shutout, his first complete game of the season, and also belted his first home run of his career, that gave the Mets the only run they’d need. Jose Reyes was back in the lineup tonight for the first time in a week, and allowed Angel Pagan to move back to the 2 hole where he’s been so effective.

The Positives:

Aces Wild: Johan Santana was flat out awesome tonight. The complete game, three hit shutout moved him to 6-5 on the season, and lowered his ERA to 3.15. With 7 no decisions where he’s received less than 3 runs of support, its not inconceivable to think he could be 11-5 right now.

Jose Reyes: Reyes’ return to the lineup was very Reyes-esque. He had two infield singles, and scored a run. His average is up .280 on the year.

NL Player of the Month: Only one hit tonight for David Wright, but still raised his average to .317 as he also reached base with an intentional walk, and scored a run.

The Negatives:

None tonight. Great win.

Interesting Facts:

-Tonight was Johan’s 10th complete game of his career.

-Jerry Manuel visited the mound with one in the 9th, but did not remove him from the game.
