Match-Up: Argentina vs. Germany

Two soccer-crazed countries will meet in the quarterfinals this morning as Argentina and Germany battle for a spot in the semi-finals. These two squads have a lot of history on and off the field.

Germany defeated Argentina via penalty kicks in 2006. Argentina defeated Germany earlier this year in a friendly match.

While off the field, there has been a lot of verbal sparring. Both squads are taking shots at the other. Argentina’s dynamic mid-fielder, Carlos Tevez claimed he was more concerned playing Mexico. German team manager Oliver Bierhoff said that the Argentineans always complain and try to influence the referees. Expect no love loss in this battle.

Going into this game, Argentina is one of only two remaining teams to win every match so far in the tournament. Argentina’s four wins have come without a goal from superstar, Lionel Messi. Can Messi get on track against the Germans?

I’m going with Argentina in this match-up. Expect a very physical, fast paced game. In the end, the extra speed advantage for Argentina will prove to be the difference.

The Pick: Argentina

 July Record: 0-2
