With NBA free agency underway, I wanted to share my predictions for the key free agents of this class. There have been countless rumors, predictions, and other garbage floating around the media. Note that free agent cannot officially sign a contract until July 8th. Take these predictions with a grain of salt and enjoy the madness that is about to ensue.
LeBron James, SF—Max Contract ($15.75 mil per season)
Chris Bosh, PF—Max Contract ($15.75 mil per season)
LeBron James has made it known that he wants to win. The Chicago Bulls already boast the most impressive young nucleus of point guard, Derrick Rose and center, Joakim Noah. Adding James and Bosh would easily give Chicago the top team in the Eastern Conference and one that could challenge the Lakers immediately.
I don’t buy any of this talk of LeBron James playing in Michael Jordan’s shadow. A team like this would be in the running for championships for the next decade.
New York Knicks
Joe Johnson, SG—Max Contract ($18 mil per season)
A’mare Stoudemire, PF/C—Max Contract ($15 mil per season)
I don’t expect the Knicks to land their desire package of James and Bosh, but Johnson and Stoudemire would be an excellent consolation package. Both players excelled in Knick coach, Mike D’Antoni’s fast break system in Phoenix. Adding these two studs with Chris Duhon and Danilo Gallinari will instantly make the Knicks a playoff team.
Dwyane Wade, G—Max Contract ($15.75 mil per season)
Carlos Boozer, PF—(3 years, $36 mil)
Ray Allen, SG—(2 years, $20 mil)
The Heat only have Mario Chalmers and Michael Beasley committed for next season, so they have big dollars to spend. Wade will try to persuade Bosh and James to join him in Miami, but the lure of Chicago will too much to pass up.
New Jersey Nets
David Lee, PF—(4 years, $45 mil)
The Nets will be in the running for Johnson, James, and Bosh, but will miss out on all three. The Nets have a nice young nucleus of Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and Brook Lopez, but playing in Newark for at least two more seasons is a potential drawback.
Lee is a high-energy player that should thrive in Avery Johnson’s system, but take a look at the bottom of this article…
Dirk Nowitzki, PF—Max Contract ($18 mil per season)
Dirk is the only thing the Mavericks have going for them. He did not re-sign during the regular season, but Marc Cuban will stop at no end to keep Nowitzki in Big D
Paul Pierce, SG–Max Contract ($18 mil per season)
No reason why ‘The Truth’ will walk away from Bean Town.
New Orleans Hornets trade Chris Paul (four years remaining) and Emeka Okafor (three years remaining) traded to the New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and a 2011 1st Round Pick
What are some of your predictions?
