Match-Up: New York Mets (Santana) vs. Washington Nationals (Hernandez)

AP

The Mets will attempt their road woes on Thursday night in Washington. The Mets will send ace, Johan Santana to the mound. Santana has given up eight earned runs over his last two contests, both resulting in losses to the Yankees and Twins. However, Santana has fared very well against the Nationals. Santana carries a 6-2 record over eight career starts, sporting a 3.23 ERA.

Santana will be opposed by righty, Livan Hernandez. Hernandez sports an impressive 3.10 ERA to go along with six wins, but has only posted two victories in his last ten starts. In 34 career starts against the Mets, Hernandez carries a 12-13 record with a 4.38 ERA.

I’m picking the Mets to open July with a victory. In order to prove their for real, they really need to start beating divisional opponents on the road.
