On a day when Jose Reyes was 0-5, the Mets used the long ball to guide them to a series win over an American League division leader. The Mets moved to 43-32, a half game behind the Atlanta Braves, and lead the wild card race by 2 games.

Johan Santana had a rough first inning, and the Mets were behind four runs before they knew what hit them. It didn’t help any that the Mets were held to only three hits on the afternoon by Carl Pavano.
