Match-Up: Will Brazil Defeat Chile By 2+ Goals?

AP

Round of 16 action will resume this afternoon as Chile and Brazil tangle for a spot in the ‘Elite 8’. Brazil won their group after posting victories over the Ivory Coast and North Korea while tying Portugal, 0-0. Chile was in the driver’s seat of Group H before losing 2-1 to Spain, finishing 2-1 in group play.

Three main cogs will be back in the Brazilian starting lineup today. Kaka (red card), Elano (injury), and Robinho (rest) all did not play against Portugal. This potent threesome will lead the Brazilian charge as they look to advance.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Chile will be without three of their better players. Midfielder, Marco Estrada and defenders Gary Medel and Waldo Ponce all picked up their second yellow cards against Spain, resulting in a one-game suspension.

During World Cup qualifying, Brazil outscored Chile 7-2 in two contests. Brazil is 18-1-2 in their last 21 matches against Chile.

Given the suspensions and the Brazilian dominance over Chile, I’m picking them to win by two or more goals.

The Pick: Brazil Wins By 2+

June Record: 13-14
