Match-Up: USA (Win) vs. Algeria (Win or Draw)

AP

The task is very simple for the US Soccer team. Defeat Algeria and advance into the knockout round of the tournament. With the US and England both tied with two-points apiece, today’s games are crucial for both clubs. Currently, Slovenia leads Group C with four points, but must deal with an English squad who has tied their first two contests. Slovenia will advance with a win or tie against England, so expect the small nation to play a conservative game. Realistically, England needs to defeat Slovenia in order to advance…

Enter Team USA, who alike England, has registered ties in both games. However, one of those ties should not have happened. In the 85th minute against Slovenia, the Maurice Edu appeared to score the winning goal for Team USA, but was robbed due to blown foul call by the referee. There has been a lot of backlash since that call. The referee was suspended for the rest of the tournament while the US gained more momentum heading into today’s contest. Expect the Americans to play very aggresively against an Algerian club who has yet to score a goal at the World Cup.

US forward, Robbie Findley will miss the match after picking up his second yellow card against Slovenia. After an impressive second half, expect Edu to receive Findley’s playing time.

I’m picking the US to win. Our nation was been built on being aggressive and taking chances. The US Soccer team will embody these characteristics, win this game, and move on to the knockout round of the World Cup.

The Pick: United States (Win)

June Record: 10-11
