Match-Up: NY Mets (Santana) at NY Yankees (Sabathia)

AP

The Mets and Yankees will send their aces out to the mound for the finale of this three game set. Johan Santana got the better of CC Sabathia in their first meeting this season, a 6-4 win on May 23rd at Citi Field. Since then, Sabathia has pitched much better. CC Sabathia is 3-0 over his last three starts while giving up three runs or less in each of them. Due to a lack of run support, Johan Santana has only won one of his last four starts since beating the Yankees.

Not many Yankees have had success against Santana, but one player who has excelled against him, may not play today. Derek Jeter (.433 career) was scratched on Saturday with a sore left foot and is considered ‘questionable’ for today’s contest. The Yankees could use his bat.

Santana was shelled in his only appearance at the new Yankee Stadium last year. He gave up nine runs in 3+ innings.

If the Yankees want to win, they will need to slow down the hot-hitting, Jose Reyes. Reyes clubbed two home runs in Saturday’s loss.

I’m going with the Yankees at home. Sabathia needs a big-time start to win the series for the Yanks.

The Pick: NY Yankees

June Record: 7-12
