The Mets were shut down by CC this afternoon at The Stadium, and dropped the series in The Bronx two games to one. The two teams finished the season 3-3 against each other, and won’t meet again this season, unless both make it to the World Series. The Mets are now 38-29, nine games over .500, and 2 games behind the Atlanta Braves

Initial Reaction:

Even without Lady Gaga at The Stadium today to display her Poker Face, a pair of aces squared off in the finale of the Subway Series. CC Sabathia got the best of Johan Santana, winning 4-0. Santana took the loss and is now 5-4 on the season. The Mets offense was unable to get anything going all game, and never had a runner reach 3rd base.

The Positives:

Mets Pitching Minus the 3rd Inning: The 3rd inning was the downfall for Santana today. He allowed four hits and four runs. Aside from that inning, he allowed only four hits and one walk. Santana’s final line for the day was six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs, all of which came on one swing of the bat from Mark Teixeira.

The Negatives:

RISP: The Mets were 0-7 today with runners in scoring position. Jason Bay and Ruben Tejada were the only batters not to record an out with a runner in scoring position.

5,6,7,8: Combined to go 0-10 on the afternoon.

Interesting Facts:

11: Jose Reyes‘ hit streak was snapped at 11 today.

3: How many grand slams Santana has allowed this season. Coming into the season, he’d allowed only 2 his entire career.

What’s Next?

Finally, the end of the DH as the Mets head back to the friendly confines of Citi Field. They’ll welcome the Tigers to town, starting Tuesday night.
