The Mets have won six straight games, along with five in a row away from Citi Field. In their last 22 games, the Mets are 17-5 and have propelled themselves within .5 game of the 1st place Atlanta Braves.

Jon Niese Is a Master

Initial Reaction:

The Mets are clicking on all cylinders right now. They are getting excellent pitching from every hurler that steps on the mound, and literally everybody is hitting right now. They’re showing their true potential, and it’s beautiful to watch the Mets play every single day. Not to mention its a lot less stressful with Ollie Perez and John Maine not pitching two of every five days.

New York scored five runs in one inning tonight for the 3rd consecutive game. When you’re spotted a 5-0 lead, every pitcher in Major League Baseball should end the day with a victory. Jon Niese pitched effectively as he was staked to a five run lead.

The Positives:

Niese is Nice: Jon Niese continues to pitch tremendously since coming off of the DL. In his three June starts, Niese is 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA. Tonight he went seven innings, allowing only three runs on eight hits and two walks.

Angel Pagan: After falling into a slump to start June, (coincided with his insertion into the two hole) Pagan has been hitting well. He had three hits tonight, including a double, stolen base, and 3 RBIs. His average is a cool .288.

Everybody HITS: Every starter delivered at least one hit tonight.

The Negatives:

Jason Bay left the game in the 6th inning, with a leg injury, but it is not considered serious.

Interesting Facts:

4: 4 consecutive doubles tonight hit by the Mets (Pagan, Wright, Davis, Bay) in the 3rd inning.

7: Total number of extra base hits on the night for the Mets.
