By now, you know the drill. Check out which players have been tearing it up and quite frankly, who hasn’t been.

Who’s Hot?

#1 Brandon Phillips, 2B, Reds: The powerful second baseman from Cincy has really been lighting up the scoreboard in the past week. Phillips is 14 for his last 32 with two extra base hits. After having a rough April (.235), Phillips is hitting .400 during May. Owners who were patient with Phillips are finally starting to see a return on their high-draft pick investment!

#2 Carlos Pena, 1B, Rays: Pena is regarded as one of the top power hitters in the American League. He definitely displayed this exorbitant power this week. He crushed five total home runs in four consectutive games. Pena is only hitting .196 on the season, but has 14 HRs. You know what you’re getting when you draft him.

#3 Jon Niese, SP, Mets: Since coming off the disabled list, Niese has given the Mets everything and then some. He has won both of his starts. He has struck out 12 hitters in 16 innings while twirling a one-hitter in San Diego. Grab him if he’s still available.

Who’s Not?

#1 Dallas Braden, SP, A’s: Ever since Braden threw that perfect game on May 9th, he has gone 0-4 with a 6.50 ERA. He got knocked around by the Angels on Wednesday, giving up eleven hits in 5 2/3 innings. I think all of the talking tired him out.

#2 Jayson Werth, OF, Phillies: Here’s a player that you’d never expect to land in this column. However, Werth is really struggling. Going into Saturday’s play, Werth was 1 for last 18. The one was a three-run home run, but he has struck an alarming eight times in those 17 at-bats. Werth will break out of this funk soon. He’s too talented, plus he’s in a contract year.

#3 David Ortiz, DH, Red Sox: Ah, Big Sloppy. After having a great May (10 HRs, .424 average), The Big One is 1 for his last 26 and has only hit one HR during the month. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Enjoy inter-league play and check back here next week!
