Match-Up: Atlanta Braves (Hudson) at Minnesota Twins (Liriano)

AP

Inter-league play will resume tonight and carry on throughout next week. One of the most intriguing series will take place in Minnesota this weekend. The AL Central leading Twins will square off against the NL East leading, Atlanta Braves. Both teams will feature one of their best arms.

Francisco Liriano has definitely surpassed the Twins expectations. After having Tommy John surgery last year, Liriano is 5-3 with a 3.10 ERA. Liriano is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA at home.

Tim Hudson is having a renaissance season. He is 5-1 with a 2.44 ERA. He has yet to give up more than three earned runs in any start and hasn’t lost since April 2nd. Outside of his June 1st win against the Phillies, he hasn’t beaten a good hitter club. His wins were against Pittsburgh, Arizona, Milwaukee, and Houston. One could even argue that the Phillies were amidst a two-week long slump. Hudson will have his first real test against a tough Twins lineup, who is hitting .269.

The deciding factor in this pick is home road splits. The Twins are one of the best home teams in the game, posting a 20-10 record at Target Field. The Braves are 16-20 on the road against a relatively soft schedule.

I’m going with the Twinkies at home for the win.

The Pick: Twins

June Record: 4-6
