The Mets have won their 8th straight at home, and 17 of 20 at Citi Field as they defeated the Florida Marlins on national television this afternoon. Jonathon Niese looked strong in his return, and David Wright homered, and Ike Davis was 4-4 in the Mets win today.

Jonathon Niese holds the Marlins to one run on six hits in seven innings.

Initial Reaction:

David Wright and Ike Davis led the way offensively, and Jonathon Niese backed up his team on the mound today and the Mets were successful in all facets of the game. After a 2-4 road trip, the Mets have equaled that win total in their first two games of the home stand. Niese won for the first time since April 30th. They improved to 21-9 at the friendly confines.

The Positives:

Ike Davis: A 4-4 day helps him break out of his first prolonged slump of his major league career. He had two doubles, and three runs scored on the day.

David Wright: David was 2-3 today, with a walk, home run, and three RBIs. He also had two runs scored. It was his 10th home run of the season, matching his season total from last year. It was also only his 2nd home run at Citi Field, his first since Opening Day.

Jonathon Niese: Niese pitched fantastic in his first game from a hamstring injury that landed him on the DL. He went seven innings scattering six hits and one walk while yielding only one run. Hopefully Niese can parlay this start with a few more and solidify the Mets rotation and keep them on the right path.

The Negatives:

None. A 6-1 win against a division rival who had won six of eight meetings on the season.

Interesting Facts:
