In their first game since they gave one away in San Diego two nights ago, the Mets were about to overcome an early deficit and improve their Major League best record at home. They’re now 20-9 at the friendly (and spacious) confines of Citi Field. R.A. Dickey picked up his 3rd win of the season, and helped himself at the plate too.

Initial Reaction:

It was nice to see the Mets win tonight’s game. They have fight, and resolve, both attributes they 2009 team lacked. After falling behind, they were about to climb out of the hole, grab the lead, and K-Rod was able to close the door in the 9th. Hanley Ramirez grounded out to 3rd, with two runners in scoring position to end the game. The Mets though, always make it interesting. They’re in 3rd place one game into the 2nd third of the season, four back of the Atlanta Braves.

The Positives:

R.A. Dickey: Dickey is now 3-0 as a Met, He gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out four. His season ERA sits at a very respectable 3.20. It would be nice to see Dickey continue this success, and move Takahashi back to the ‘pen to open up a spot for Niese.

Jeff Francoeur: Swinging a hot bat once again, He was 2-4 on the night, and has brought his average all the way up to .258, about 45 points in the last ten days.

Francisco Rodriguez: A game after a disappointing blown save, K-Rod made it interesting, but got the job done, like good closers too. He picked up his 11th save of the season.

The Negatives:

Angel Pagan: Hitting him 2nd isn’t working. He’s now 0-9 from the 2 hole, and that isn’t going to work if that’s where he’s going to continue to hit. Put him back at sixth, Jerry.

Interesting Facts:

20-9: The Mets have the best home record in baseball, yet the worst road record in the National League.

7: It’s been seven games since an opponent has homered at Citi Field.

Dickey’s batting average (.375) is higher than his ERA (3.20)
