Once again, Mike Pelfrey took the ball and was able to lead the Mets to a victory, following their worst loss of the season. He won his 4th straight start and is now 8-1 on the season. The Mets will look to win a series on the road tomorrow against the NL’s best team (record-wise).

Initial Reaction:

Tonight was a very important game for the Mets, and Mike Pelfrey responded. After last night, the Mets could have easily mailed the rest of this road trip in, and got ready to head back home for the weekend series. Big Pelf was not going to allow that to happen as he went eight strong innings, yielding one run on four hits and two walks. He also struck out eight. David Wright had a big night at the plate, as did Ike Davis. They now sit tied for 3rd with the Florida Marlins, 3.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves.

The Positives:

Big Pelf: Mike Pelfrey should be an All Star. He showed that he is ace worthy, as he is now 8-1 on the season. His ERA sits at 2.39, which would be close to the league lead if not for Ubaldo Jimenez. I feel confident every time he takes the ball.

David Wright: Wright had a great night tonight, going 3-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a stolen base. His 36 RBIs on the season leads the team, and his nine home runs leaves him one short of last season’s total. His average is up to .269.

We Like Ike!: Ike was 2-4 tonight, with a two run shot to deep center, his sixth of the season. The insurance runs proved critical after a 9th inning run given up by K-Rod. It was nice to see Ike bounce back after his first slump since being brought up.

The Negatives:

Jose Reyes: An 0-5 night from the leadoff spot hurts, but the Mets won anyways. He’s been hot of late, let’s hope tonight was just a bad night.

LOB: Even though they won tonight, the Mets still left 8 on base. It’d be nice to see them score even just 25% of those runners left on base.

Interesting Facts:

“Caught”: For the first time in his career, Jose Reyes was “caught” stealing by the San Diego Padres, although replays appeared as though he was indeed safe.

10: Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 10th save of the season. He’s 10-12 in save opportunities.

What’s Next?

The Mets will look to win a road series tomorrow, something that has plagued them all season.
