CC Sabathia struggled for the Yankees today. The big man went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. This marked the third shaky start Sabathia has had in his last five games. But the big man left with a commanding 10-5 lead…

However, the foursome of David Robertson, Sergio Mitre, Damaso Marte, and Joba Chamberlain gave up seven Indian runs in the 7th inning, putting the Yankees in a 12-10 hole. The Indians would add a run in the 8th and the Yankees 9th inning rally stopped short as the Yanks fell, 13-11.

Antonio Pierce, who was released by the New York Giants this off-season, said that Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is on the hot seat this season. Apparently, there are a lot of issues within the locker and with management. Even with the off-the-field issues, Coughlin has had a lot of success on the field.

Coughlin has a 55-41 record as the Giants head coach. Coughlin has taken the Giants to the playoffs in four of his six seasons with the team. Famously, Coughlin’s 2007 Giants defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. However, after defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolo bolted for the St. Louis Rams head coaching vacancy in 2008, the Giants became one of the worst units in the league. Under defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan, the Giants gave up 427 points, third worst in the league. Sheridan has been fired, but there is definitely a sense of urgency within the organization.

Do you think Pierce’s statements are accurate?

Baseball is starting to heat up as we head into the summer months. Some players are struggling with injuries, while others just can’t seem to put together a decent year. As young players and new faces approach the majors, here are the pitchers you should consider for your fantasy team. Who is this year’s Ubaldo Jimenez???

The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 Friday night. A game that looked like it might be spectacular turned into a nightmare ninth inning, as the struggling Brewers beat the Mets in walk-off fashion.

Via Sweeny Muri of WFAN, the Yankees have designated outfielder Randy Winn for assignment to make room for Curtis Granderson.

The Yankees really had three options before activating Granderson. Send the versatile Ramiro Pena (.211/.244/.237) or Kevin Russo (.250/.286/.350) back to Triple A. Or cut Randy Winn. The Yankees chose the ladder and cut the punch-less vet. Winn has been awful this season(.213/.300/.295). The Yankee inked Winn during the off-season to provide outfield depth. Winn just didn’t cut it (no pun intended).

To me, this move solidifies that the Yankees view Brett Gardner as an everyday player. Gardner has held his own this season, achieving a .370 OBP and stealing 17 bases. We’ve all seen enough of Marcus Thames in the outfield and Kevin Russo is fine as a fourth outfielder. Gardner has no competition in left field for playing time.

Will You Miss Randy Winn?

The Yankees (28-19, 12-6 home) just took two of three against the AL Central leading Minnesota Twins. Both AJ Burnett and Andy Pettitte turned in great performances for the Yankees in both of their wins. Hopefully, the Yankees will bring that success home as they host the Cleveland Indians (17-28, 9-14 road) for four games. Here’s your preview for the weekend…

Yesterday, the Mets completed a three game home sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies, after previously taking two of three from the cross town rival Yankees. The Mets more than just survived that tough six game stretch. They played well enough to win all six while allowing only 10 runs during their six game home stand. Their starting pitching was great during that run, accounting for all five wins. Prior to those five wins, Mike Pelfrey recorded the starters’ only victory during the month of May, a 3-2 win in Atlanta. Many fans are getting on Met management for not having a good rotation, but that isn’t the biggest problem surrounding the Mets right now..

Alike many of you, I’m extremely disappointed with Javier Vazquez’s performance last night. After two really good starts against the Tigers and Mets, he had a real clunker against the Twins (5 2/3 innings, five runs). His command was awful and he paid for mistakes he left over the plate. Let’s take a look at why he was successful in his start two weeks ago in Detroit and why he struggled last night..
