Initial Reaction:

R.A. Dickey’s knuckleball continued to dance as he improved to 2-0 with the Mets this season, and New York was able to salvage the trip to Milwaukee, avoiding the sweep, and improving to 4-12 on the road this month. Road games continue to trouble the Mets. Jeff Francoeur’s bat came alive, as was 4-5 on the day. The 10 runs allowed by Milwaukee tied a season high for runs scored by the Mets this season.

The Positives:

Jeff Francoeur: The Mets need Francoeur’s bat to come alive while Beltran’s return continues to be delayed. He was 4-5 today with two doubles, three runs scored, and two RBIs. He was able to improve his batting average to .243 on the year.

R.A. Dickey: Dickey was able to go seven innings tonight. He scattered four runs on nine hits this afternoon, but he walked none and struck out three. His ERA is 2.84 since being recalled from Buffalo. He’s been a pleasant surprise the last few weeks.

David Wright: While David continues to lack the big hit (He was only able to come through with a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded) he was 2-3 on the day with a walk. He had two runs scored and an RBI. He’s hitting .251 on the year, and didn’t strike out today.

The Negatives:

First Base: Fernando Tatis got the start today and was 0-2 before giving way to Ike Davis. Davis was 0-3 on the day with two strikeouts.

Jason Bay: While Bay did reach base twice, via walks, he also struck out twice, and was unable to do much at the plate. He fell back below .300 for the season, sitting at .293.

Interesting Facts:

4: The Mets have four wins away from Citi Field in the month of May.

16: They pounded out 16 hits this afternoon, as they tied a season high on runs scored.

What’s Next?

The Mets will head to the west coast to play against San Diego in the beginning of a three game set. Taking two of three against San Diego is crucial, to end this road trip at 3-3, which wouldn’t be the worst thing.
