Initial Reaction:

After a 1 hour and 53 minute rain delay, Mike Pelfrey took the mound against 2008 World Series MVP Cole Hamels and outdueled him for 7 innings as the Mets got the broom out, and swept the Phils all the way back to their 2nd class city. The Mets have now won five straight games and stand only two games back of Philadelphia. Mike Pelfrey improved to 7-1 on the season.

The Positives:

Big Pelf: Mike Pelfrey had another really good outing tonight. He was a little erratic, walking five batters, but he allowed only three hits and struck out five. He didn’t allow a run, and lowered his ERA to 2.54. As a Met fan, you feel confident every time Pelfrey takes the ball. He’s now 7-1 on the season.

Jose, Jose, Jose, Jose: For the 5th straight night, Jose Reyes has had a multi hit game. Tonight he was 3-4, with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Reyes is hot. He’s raised the paltry .210 average he was sporting before the Yankee series all the way up to .249 in less than a week.

Rollin’ Up The Phillies: Pelfrey was able to roll up three double plays tonight, one of which there was runners on the corners with only one out. A 5-4-3 double play got the Mets out of the inning.

The Negatives:

David Wright: 0-4 on the night, and grounded out in the 7th with the bases loaded to end the inning. He did strike out once tonight, but he’s no longer striking out at the rate he was earlier this month.
