The Mets were unable to win a single game in South Beach this weekend, as the Marlins were able to sweep the Mets and move two games ahead of them in the standings. The Mets now stand at 18-20 on the season.

Initial Reaction:

Jonathon Niese left the game early today after re-aggravating his hamstring that forced him to miss the entire second part of the season last year. He was facing Ricky Nolasco this afternoon trying to act as the stopper to their current slide. Niese was not successful, giving up 5 runs (2 earned) in only 2 innings pitched.

The Positives:

Angel Pagan: Angel was 1-2 today, with two runs scored, and reaching base three times total (walking twice).

Jason Bay: He was 2-5 on the day, also with two runs scored. He added a triple, so the extra base hits are starting to come for Bay. His average is up to .277.

The Negatives:

Pitching: Another game where the Mets were able to score some runs against Florida, but the pitching couldn’t get the job done. You won’t win many games giving up 10 runs.

Defense: Apparently, the Mets forgot how to field bunts. It led to 6 runs in the 3rd inning.

Interesting Facts:

– Every starting position player reached base for New York.

– Jason Bay’s hitting streak is now at 10 games.

What’s Next?:

The Mets head to Atlanta for a 2 game series starting tomorrow night.
