Match-Up: Boston Red Sox (Lester) at Detroit Tigers (Willis)

This is the second game of the Red Sox-Tigers three game set. Red Sox ace, Jon Lester has pitched well this season. He carries a 3-2 record with a 3.71 ERA. He has recorded 44 strike outs in 43 innings. Lester was impressive in his last start, throwing seven innings of four-hit ball against the Yankees. Lester has only made one start against the Tigers.

Tigers’ starter, Dontrelle Willis, was originally scheduled to start Monday against the Yankees, but was scratched due to illness. Willis has had a roller coaster ride with the Tigers. Willis has only made 17 starts since 2008 and has had health problems, psychological issues, and suffered from flawed mechanics. With the Tigers, he has a 2-7 record with an ERA over 6.00. Too bad the Yankees didn’t face him last Monday.

Against the Red Sox in his career, Willis is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA.

Boston went 6-1 against the Tigers last season, including a three-game sweep at Commerica Park.

I’m picking the Sawx in this match-up. Lester has been very good and Willis has been virtually unpredictable.

The Pick: Boston Red Sox

May Record: 7-7
