The Giants and Padres will square off in Game 2 of this three game set on Wednesday night. Giants starter, Matt Cain has been impressive this season, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.79 ERA. He has a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Cain has won his last two contests, against the formidable Rockies and on the road against the Marlins. Cain faced the Padres earlier this season, but did not figure into the decision. He went six innings and allowed only two runs. In his career, Cain has made 19 career starts against the Padres and carries a 2.91 ERA.

Cain will face off against the Padres tall lefty, Clayton Richard. Richard is 1-2 this season with a 3.34 ERA. Richard has allowed 37 hits in 36 innings pitched this season and has walked 17 hitters. Richard has only two career starts against the Giants and neither of them were great. He has an 0-1 record against the club while carring a 6.10 ERA.

The Giants have the pitching edge in this match-up and will look to take the second game in this series. I’m going with one the NL’s best righties at home against the Padres.

The Pick: San Francisco Giants
