Match-Up: San Diego Padres (LeBlanc) at San Francisco Giants (Zito)

The Giants and Padres will square off for the first time in San Francisco this season. The Padres swept the Giants earlier this season at Petco Park. However, the Padres did not face Barry Zito or Tim Lincecum. They face San Francisco’s crafty lefty for the first time on Tuesday night.

Zito has redefined the way he has pitched this season. He is 5-0 with a 1.49 ERA in six starts. He has struck out 28 hitters and carries a .182 Babip. In his career, Zito carries a 3-6 record with a 4.17 ERA against the Padres. Again, Zito has redefined the way he has pitched this year and we shouldn’t take too much away from his career numbers.

Zito will face off against second-year pro, Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc is quietly having a strong start to the season. He is 2-0 in four starts and carries a 1.16 ERA. LeBlanc is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two career starts against the Giants.

The Giants won four of six on their road trip against the Mets and Marlins. The Padres have won three of their last six against the Rockies and Astros.

The Giants went 6-3 against the Padres at AT&T Park in 2009. Given Zito’s strong track record and the Giants emotional win against the Mets on Sunday, expect the Giants to use that momentum to win a low-scoring affair on Tuesday night.

The Pick: San Francisco Giants

May Record: 4-6
