Initial Reaction:

John Maine and the Mets took on Luis Atilano of the Nationals tonight. Despite a decent outing by Maine, the Mets were unable to score enough runs to get past Washington. The Mets have now lost two straight at home after winning their previous nine.

The Positives:

Angel Pagan: Pagan was 2-5 tonight, a single to start the game, and a home run in the 9th to cut the deficit in half.

Rod Barajas: Rod continues to see the ball well. He was 2-4 tonight with a double and single. He’s continued his hot start to the season, despite his .263 OBP.

John Maine: Maine went six innings tonight, giving up two home runs, and scattering seven hits. The offense didn’t give him enough support.

The Negatives:

Offense: Even though they were able to rack up 12 hits, the Mets managed only two runs tonight against a rookie pitcher.

Pinch Hitting: Gary Matthews Jr. and Frank Catalanotto continue to struggle coming off the bench. Both were hit-less in their two attempts tonight.

Interesting Facts:

Every Met starter recorded a hit in tonight’s game.
