Initial Reaction: Oliver Perez faced off against Mike Leake in the opener of a three game set in Cincinnati tonight. Perez pitched rather efficiently tonight, going six innings, scattering six hits and giving up two runs. He did not factor into the decision tonight.

The Positives:

Oliver Perez: Perez pitched well enough to win tonight, but unfortunately, so did Mike Leake. Ollie will need to pitch like this on a consistent base however to gain back the trust of the fan base.

David Wright: Another night, another 2 hits for Wright tonight. He did however strike out twice, but his OBP is .420.

The Negatives:

Jason Bay: 0-5 with 2 strikeouts tonight. He’s hitting only .255

RISP: The Mets were 2 for 10 tonight with runners in scoring position. That has to improve, especially when they get quality starts from the back end of their rotation.

Interesting Facts:

Ike Davis and Mike Leake were college teammates

The Mets have now lost three in a row and still sit a half game behind the Phillies for first place.

What’s Next?

The Mets will look to rebound in the 2nd game of the series.
