The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-5 in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Oliver Perez was atrocious tonight, walking four batters without making it past the 4th inning. Hisanori Takahashi picked him up, throwing 3.1 strong innings in relief, allowing the Mets offense to score some more runs in the process. David Wright had three hits and drove in four runs, making him the major contributor of the offense. Ike Davis knocked in three runs as well. Mets have now won six straight games and will attempt the sweep of the Dodgers tomorrow afternoon.

Initial Reaction:

Oliver Perez matched up against Charlie Haeger and both pitchers looked awful. I really don’t like how you never know which Ollie you are going to see when he takes the mound. That 3 year, $36 million contract still baffles me…

I enjoy not worrying when the game is handed to the bullpen these days. It used to be the opposite. Now, I have confidence in guys like Takahashi, Nieve, and Feliciano. They are all very different pitchers, which definitely helps in keeping opposing hitters off-balance.

David Wright had some nice hard hits today. Keep ’em coming David!

Positives From The Game:

Getting It “Wright”: David Wright went 3 for 3 today, including a walk and no strikeouts. That’s right, NO strikeouts. Hopefully he is finally out of his funk.

Bullpen: Takahashi, Mejia, and Valdes helped bail out Oliver Perez after his horrible start. Combined, they allowed only four hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.

Negatives From The Game:

Not Quite “Angel”: Angel Pagan let a fly ball drop in centerfield in the 9th inning. The play just looked terrible.

“Bad Ollie”: We hadn’t seen much of it, but tonight Oliver Perez’s true colors surfaced. He got rocked in that one big inning (4th) and was taken out thereafter. If at any point the other pitchers fall, he’s got to step up as a consistent starter.

Interesting Facts:

1,000: David Wright passed the 1,000 hit mark Tuesday night. He now has 1,001 career hits.

8: Since Ike Davis was promoted on April 19th, the Mets have won 8 of their last 9 games.

What’s Next?: The Mets will try to sweep the Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is 1:10 PM.
