Initial Reaction: Mike Pelfrey faced off against Tommy Hanson in a matchup of pitchers who have pitched well to start this season. Pelfrey pitched in and out of trouble tonight, going 5 innings, walking 5 and striking out 3 to improve his record to 4-0. Pelfrey didn’t have his best stuff tonight, but we able to get out of trouble when he needed too, and never allowed the Braves to capitalize on his mistakes.

The Positives:

Luis Castillo: He was 2-3 tonight, and stole 2 bases. It was a good night for Castillo, and he’s been very consistent so far this season.

Mike Pelfrey: Although he only went 5 innings, it was enough to pick up the win tonight, and that’s what matters. He lowered his ERA to 0.69 and extended his scoreless inning streak to 24.

The Negatives:

Angel Pagan: He was 0-3 tonight in 5 innings. With Reyes leading off, Pagan is the new leadoff hitter, and he needs to find a way on base, he’s batting only .228 this season.

The Weather: The game went only 5 innings tonight as rain started falling at the beginning of the rain, and intensified throughout, until it became too heavy to play through in the top of the 6th. A Mets win is all that matters though.

What’s Next:

The Mets open a 3 game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers tomorrow, before heading to Philadelphia this weekend.

Tomorrow’s Probables:

NYM Oliver Perez (0-2) 3.71 ERA vs. LAD Hiroki Kuroda (2-0) 2.18 ERA
