Initial Reaction:

Scott Kazmir faced off against Javier Vazquez in the rubber game of this three-game set. Neither pitcher was good. Vazquez has yet to turn in a good performance. He lasted only 3 2/3 innings today, giving up five runs on five hits while walking three.

Positives From The Game:

Jorgie Juices One: After Scott Kazmir intentionally hit Robinson Cano in the 2nd inning, Jorge Posada hit the very next pitch over the center field fence.

Robbie’s Revenge: After getting plunked earlier in the game, Cano hit a 6th-inning lead-off home run that chased Scott Kazmir.

Ace and Boone: Relievers Alfredo Aceves and Boone Logan threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Vazquez.

3-3: I said earlier this week that if the team could go 3-3, it’d be a successful West Coast road trip. Well, they finished 3-3. The Yankees do not play anymore regular season games in Anaheim.

Negatives From The Game:

Javier Vazquez: I’m starting to get a little worried about Vazquez…

Marcus Thames’ Glove: Yes, Marcus Thames had a nice second inning double, but his defense is killing the Yankees. In the 4th inning, Thames got a late break on sinking line drive base hit. This is another instance where Thames’ defense has hurt the Yankees. Brett Gardner has been playing well and came in relief of Thames, but why isn’t Gardner getting more starts?

7th Inning: Marte vs. Morales: This at-bat was just uncomfortable. With runners on first and second in the 7th of 5-4 game, Kendry Morales walked to the plate. Damaso Marte and Francisco Cervelli appeared ready to intentionally walk Morales, which would be extremely odd and would load the bases. They threw one ball and then changed their approach. Three pitches later, Morales crushed a 3-0 three-run home run to dead center, giving the Angels a 8-4 lead. Manager Joe Girardi warned Cervelli that Morales would swing 3-0 and Marte laid in a cookie.

5 of 6: The Yankees lost their first series after taking the first five of 2010.

Interesting Facts:

10: Bobby Abreu’s career home run total off of Javier Vazquez.

7 for 10: During this series, Angels first basemen Kendry Morales went 7 for 10 with two home runs.

.381: Howie Kendrick’s career average against the Yankees. He KILLS them.

What’s Next?:

The Yankees will visit President Obama in the White House on Monday.

Will the Yankees issue our 44th President a #44 Yankee jersey?

Could be controversial.

After they finish playing with Bo Obama (below), The Yanks will open up a three game set in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Next Game: Tuesday, 7:05PM

Projected Starters: Phil Hughes(2-0, 2.19 ERA) vs. Kevin Millwood(0-3, 3.38 ERA)
