Initial Reaction:

Joba Chamberlain was really disappointing. He got knocked around in the 8th inning(two runs, three hits). There were some positives from the game, but overall, it was gloomy.

Positives From The Game:

Brett the Jet: Brett Gardner’s 3rd inning double jump started the Yankee offense.

Trade Places, Won’t Ya?: Derek Jeter doubled home Gardner and took his place at 2nd base.

The Teix Train: Mark Teixeira was hit by a pitch in the 3rd inning. Later in the inning, an angry Teixeira was coming home on a Robinson Cano single and ran over JACKED UP Angel catcher Bobby Wilson. Teixeira was safe and Wilson(ankle, concussion) left the game. It’s never good to see a player injured, but Teixeira had to go through Wilson in order to score.

Swish Hawk: Nick Swisher crushed an Ervin Santana 4th inning fast ball over the center field fence.

Arms Race: Jorge Posada threw out two of three base runners tonight.

Negatives From The Game:

Bad AJ Came To Anaheim: AJ Burnett did not bring his best stuff tonight, but he did battle. He went 6 1/3 innings, yielding four earned runs on nine hits. He walked three, hit two, and only struck out three. His line sounds a lot worse than he actually did.

Two-Out RBIs: The Angels had three, two-out RBIs.

Joba Chamberlain: Joba just didn’t have it tonight. He gave up a game-winning home run to Kendry Morales in the eighth inning. All six of the Angels hitters he faced hit the ball hard.

Interesting Facts:

4: Total number of hitters that were hit by a pitch tonight. Five if you count our friend, Bobby.

16: Total number of strikeouts recorded by AJ Burnett this season. Burnett has only made four starts, but his K/9 was 8.5 last season. However, his 2010 season ERA (3.20) is much lower than it was last year at this time(5.47).

June 21st: Luckily, the Yankees will not play their next late-starting game(9:40PM EST) until June 21st.
Their opponent? Justin Upton and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
I hate these late games with a passion.

What’s Next?:

The Yankees will look to even up the series and end their two-game losing streak this afternoon.

Game-Time: 4:10 PM (FOX) Andy Pettitte (2-0, 1.35 ERA) vs. Joel Pineiro (2-1, 1.77 ERA)
