The Mets were stymied by Carlos Silva for the first six innings and were never able to mount a comeback as Chicago won its first game of the series vs. New York.

Initial Reaction:

Oliver Perez wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t great tonight as he went five innings, giving up eight hits, three walks, while giving up three runs (two earned). The Mets’ bats continue to be very inconsistent as they were held to two hits in six innings against Carlos Silva.

Positives:

David Wright: He was 1-2 tonight with a walk, HBP, RBI, and SB. He continues to get on base even though he is struggling at the plate.

Negatives:

3-4-5: Wright, Bay, Francoeur combined to go 2-9 with one RBI. All three are struggling at the plate right now, especially Jeff Francoeur, who is now 0-22 after starting the season on fire.

Bullpen: The bullpen was touched up for six runs in four innings. After the Mets battled to make it a 6-3 game in the bottom of the 8th, Hisanori Takahashi allowed three runs in the top of the 9th, putting the game out of reach.

Mets’ Fans: Citi Field was empty tonight. I know it’s April, and there was a rain delay, but come on, it looked like a Montreal Expos game in that stadium tonight.

Interesting facts:

-Coming in to tonight the Mets had a team ERA of 3.27, good enough for 5th best in MLB. They also lead MLB in walks, an interesting combination.

-Alfonso Soriano was a double short of the cycle, going 3-4 on the night with 3 RBIs.

-Every game I’ve written a recap for so far this season, the Mets have lost.

Tomorrow’s Probables:

NYM Johan Santana (1-1) 3.00 ERA vs. CHI Tom Gorzelanny (0-1) 1.93 ERA
