Initial Reaction:

Great start to the year by the Yankees so far. It was nice to see Andy Pettitte go eight innings, only allowing four hits and two earned runs. Brett “The Jet” Gardner had a great game in the leadoff spot, going 2 for 3, stealing two bases and scoring a run. Jorge Posada also added a laser home run in the 7th inning for insurance.

Positives From The Game:

He did it!: In the bottom of the third inning, Mark Teixeira hit a bomb into the second deck in right field for his first home run of the season. Good for you, Mark.

Filling in for the Captain: With Derek Jeter getting a rare day off, Ramiro Pena filled in adequately, hitting a bases-loaded single in the third inning. He’s a valuable asset to the bench.

K.O.: The Yankees knocked out Rangers’ starter Rich Harden after 3.2 innings pitched, knocking him around for five hits, four runs (all earned), and six walks.

Negatives From The Game:

Nick Johnson: 0-4 at the plate today with three strikeouts. He will always draw walks, but he has to find a way to start making contact.
