Initial Reaction:

The Mets fought hard tonight as they battled back to tie the game late. Other than the mistake Jenrry Mejia made to Chris Ianetta, the bullpen pitched fantastic, keeping the Rockies scoreless forĀ four innings. The Mets continue to lose though, and Mets fans have to wonder, with the pressure continuing to mount on Jerry and his club, when do you switch something?

The Positives:

David Wright: Another home run, his 3rd of the season. David hit only 10 all of last season. He’s hitting .308 with a phenomenal .500 OBP.

Jeff Franceour: He went 1 for 3 with 2 walks, with his lone hit being a home run. He’s hitting .429 so far this season and is one of the few bright spots so far this year in Queens.

Ryota Igarashi: He came into the bottom of the 9th and took the Rockies down in order after the Mets tied the game to force extra innings. He’s showing he can be relied upon for New York in the late innings.

The Negatives:

Jon Niese: Niese gave up 5 earned in 5 innings pitched. With John Maine struggling, the Mets can surely use Niese to step his game up.

Jenrry Mejia: Maybe 20-year-old’s just aren’t typically in the majors for a reason. It was his first pressure filled outing so maybe he deserves some slack, but he looks like he fits in to what the Mets are all about… letting you down when you maybe have a glimmer of hope.

Jerry Manuel: I was bothered that he pinch ran for Jacobs in the top of the 10th. Granted he’s not a fast runner, but Tatis isn’t a blazer either. He sacrificed Fernando Tatis’ bat on the bench for a slight improvement on the bases. That left Henry Blanco as the only position player left on the bench. Ended up having no bearing on the game, just another decision by the Mets that irked me.

Interesting Facts:

– David Wright hit 10 home runs all of last season. He has 3 through 8 games.

– Jeff Franceour extended his hit streak to start the season to 8 games.

Tomorrow’s probables:

NYM Mike Pelfrey (1-0) 3.30 ERA vs. COL Jorge de la Rose (1-0) 0.00 ERA
