Match-Up: Cincinnati Reds (5-4), Harang at Florida Marlins (5-4), Johnson

Joe Rimkus Jr. / Miami Herald

The Reds have won two out of three games in this series thus far. The Marlins will send out their ace in an attempt to split the series. Josh Johnson (0-1, 6.30 ERA) hasn’t been great so far, but his strikeout numbers are there. In ten innings this season, he has struck out ten hitters, but has yielded seven earned runs. In two career starts against the Reds, Johnson is 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA. We can’t take too much from this smaller sample size, but he is the Marlins ace and has a 16-9 career record at home with 244 strikeouts over 249 innings.

Reds starter, Aaron Harang has posted similar results to Johnson so far this season. He is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts. In nine career starts against the Marlins, he has posted a 3-2 record with a 6.15 ERA. Career-wise Harang is 40-40 with 4.41 ERA on the road.

This pick is based off of pure talent. Josh Johnson is way too good of a pitcher to have such a slow start. I expect him to come out and mow down the Red hitters. Over the past two season, Aaron Harang has been really erratic (2-7 road record in 2009). Roll with The Fish at home.

The Pick: Florida Marlins
