Initial Reaction:

Same old story with these New York Mets as they lost to the Rockies 11-3 tonight. They were unable to get hits against a pitcher who isn’t very good. John Maine, whom the Mets are relying on this season if they are going to have a successful season, went only 3 innings, and struggled. He gave up all 8 runs with 2 outs. Maine needs to learn how to finish innings.

The Positives:

David Wright– He reached base every at bat tonight, hitting a solo home run, walking twice, and adding a single. He was the lone bright spot to an otherwise terrible night for New York.

Jason Bay– Bay picked up his first RBI as a Met and went for 1 for 3 with a base on balls.

The Negatives:

John Maine– Maine struggled against a good Rockies lineup. All of the runs he gave up came with 2 outs. You have to question Maine’s mental toughness because of his inability to finish innings. His official line was 3IP, 7 hits, 8 runs, 7 ER.

Luis Castillo– He’s actually not playing poorly,  but I was irked when he attempted to stretch a single into a double when they were down 8-0. Even though he was incorrectly called out, why do that? David Wright proceeded to hit a Home Run a few pitches later, as he ended up costing the Mets a run.

Interesting Facts:

-As I stated previously, Jason Bay picked up his first RBI of the season.

-The Mets announcers took calls from fans during the game. I’ve never seen that before.

-Jeff Francoeur has extended his hitting streak to start the season to 7 games.

Tomorrow’s probable starters:

NYM Jon Niese (0-1) 4.50 ERA vs. COL Aaron Cook (0-1) 6.75 ERA
