Everyone reading this post probably watched at least some part of the game tonight. I’m not going to bore you by giving you a recap, but let’s highlight some positives and negatives:

1. It’s The First Game: The 2009 Yankees lost their first two games.Historically, CC Sabathia has been a slow starter. (He didn’t win his second game until May 8th last year). In his first start with the team last year, Sabathia lasted only 4 1/3 innings, yielding six runs and allowing five walks. He showed good command tonight through the first five innings before sputtering.

2. Curtis Granderson: Granderson homered in his first at-bat with the Yankees.
Last player to accomplish this feat: Cody Ransom.

3. Brett Gardner’s offense: His fourth inning perform was a thing of beauty. Clutch RBI single. Later stealing home. He brings a new element to the squad.

1. Bullpen: Chan Ho got ‘Parked’ by Pedoria. Damaso Marte seemed uninterested. Joba was ok. It’s only one game, but there was no sense of urgency.

Other Notes:

Curtis Granderson vs. Lefties will be an issue this season. Scott Schoenweis struck out Granderson in the 5th. Okajima walked him in the 7th on a close pitch, but hitting .183 against lefties this year will not cut it.

Reaction: So the team isn’t going to go 162-0. At least we got that out of the way.

Pedro Throwing Out The First Pitch? Steven Tyler singing God Bless America? Neil Diamond? Give me a break.

Only In Boston..
