Jerry Manuel announced the Mets’ Opening Day lineup yesterday.

This is it:
1. SS Alex Cora
2. 2B Luis Castillo
3. 3B David Wright
4. 1B Mike Jacobs
5. LF Jason Bay
6. CF Gary Matthews Jr.
7. RF Jeff Francoeur
8. C Rod Barajas
9. SP Johan Santana

Interesting as Jeff pointed out yesterday, that Mike Jacobs is hitting cleanup and Jason Bay hitting 5th. Will he see a strike until Carlos Beltran returns,  with Gary Matthews Jr. hitting behind him? I certainly wouldn’t give him much to hit.

That being said, why isn’t Pagan starting in Center Field? He hit .306 last year mostly out of the leadoff spot and would be an improvement over Alex Cora. If Pagan led off, Cora could bat 8th, and Francouer would be moved up in the lineup.

We’ll see how today works, but let’s just hope when Beltran and Reyes return, it isn’t already too late.

Go Mets.
