The New York Yankees defeated the Blue Jays, 5-2 today. But the real news came before the game.

Curtis Granderson will start in center field on Sunday night at Fenway. Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher will occupy the corner spots.

The Yankees also announced that the Phil Hughes will make his first start on April 15th. Given the two off days during the first week of the season, the Yankees will only need four starters during the first week. I know a certain columnist who will be there on April 15th to see Hughes pitch….

Today’s Action:

Stated before, the Yanks won 5-2. AJ Burnett got the start and threw 4 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on five hits. He walked and struck out two. He’s ready to go and is scheduled to pitch Tuesday in Boston. The bullpen was excellent again. In 4 1/3 innings, the team of Park, Robertson, Chamberlain, Ring and Pendleton struck out six and only allowed one hit.

Robinson Cano led the way for the Bombers, collecting two hits and two RBIs.

Mark Teixeira is fine. One uber-fan(Hi, Mom.) freaked out when they read this post this morning. Teix went 2 for 4 in the win.
