Baylor completed embarrassed and outclassed the Saint Mary’s Gaels today, winning by 23 points. We have a streak of two that will be extended into three after tonight.

The Match-Up: 7:05 PM #2 West Virginia Mountaineers(30-6) vs. #1 Kentucky Wildcats(35-2)

Both teams enter this match-up on impressive winning streaks. The Mountaineers steam-rolled their way to a Big East Tournament championship and have won nine straight games. The Wildcats won the SEC Championship and have won eight straight games. Each of the teams features a dynamic array of play makers. The Mountaineers are led by guard Da’Sean Butler and forward Devin Ebanks. The Wildcats are led by perennial All-Americans, guard John Wall and forward DeMarcus Cousins. This game will be extremely entertaining.

In this match-up, I look for John Wall to take over. West Virginia does not have an answer for him. Their starting point guard, Darryl Bryant, broke his foot earlier in the week. Senior guard, Joe Mazzulla filled in for Bryant but only posted 3 points on1 of 8 shooting. West Virginia must try to slow down the Kentucky’s fast break offense.

I think the selection committee gave West Virginia a raw deal. The Mountaineers had an impressive run in the Big East this season and got paired in Kentucky’s region. It would have made more sense to swap them with Villanova (Duke’s region), but at this point, the championship road runs through Kentucky. The Mountaineers will have to knock them off earlier than expected.

When it comes down to it, West Virginia does not have an answer for Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins. Kentucky is a bigger, more athletic team that should push the Mountaineers around in the low post.

Allegations aside, Coach John Calipari has taken two different programs to Final Fours. He’ll be motivated to make it three after Saturday night.
