Villanova lost a tough contest yesterday to a hot Saint Mary’s team. Today, we look to start a new streak.

The Match-Up: 2:30PM #5 Michigan State Spartans vs. #4 Maryland Terrapins

This Second Round game in Spokane figures to be extremely interesting. Both Maryland and Michigan State were one of the best teams in their respective conferences this season. #5 Michigan State had to hold off a late charge by #12 New Mexico State to preserve the victory. Guard Kalin Lucas scored 25 points in the victory. Michigan State only shot 38% from the field in the victory. Michigan State has regularly shot over 50% from the field throughout Big Ten play(48% overall). Michigan State had difficulty defending sharp-shooting New Mexico State guard, Jonathan Gibson(16 points). They will have to defend one of the best shooting guard in America on Sunday.

Maryland had no problems handling Houston, winning 89-77. Maryland star guard Greivis Vazquez scored 16 points in the victory. However, freshman forward Jordan Williams stole the show for the Terps. Williams scored 21 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the win.

Both teams boast top coaches in Maryland’s Gary Williams and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo. These coaches figure to have their teams motivated for this second round match-up.

I’m going with Maryland in this game. They’ve played better recently and have the best player on the court in Vazquez.

The Pick: #4 Maryland Terrapins

March Record: 15-5
