The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers today, 5-2.

Game Notes

CC Sabathia got the start for the Bombers as he struck out eight hitters over 5 1/3 innings. He only gave up two runs and scattered four hits.

Mariano Rivera made his second appearance Spring Training today. One inning, no runs, no hits, no errors, one strikeout. I think Mo and CC are ready for the season.

Alex Rodriguez hit his first home run of Spring Training, a third inning blast off New Jersey native, Rick Porcello.

Housekeeping Notes:

The Yankees are expected to trade either Sergio Mitre or Chad Gaudin before the season begins. So far in Spring Training, Mitre has pitched very well. In nine innings, he has allowed three runs on seven hits while walking two hitters and striking out seven. Financially, there is a big discrepancy. Gaudin is set to make close to $3 million this season. Mitre will only make $1 million. The Yankee brass really likes Mitre, but Gaudin is the safer option. It’ll be an interesting situation to monitor.
